What you need to know before (or after) seeing Iron Man 2

OK, just like the rest of you, I'm totally psyched about seeing Iron Man 2 this weekend, and well, I just found this article, and — while I already knew much of the info in it — I strongly recommend that the rest of you folk read it so that you will become as smart as me. (Yeah, I really said that).

Oh, and in case I haven't said (over and over again), there are Iron Man toys at Burger King.

More on this later. Plus we certainly don’t want you to forget to purchase your advance tickets to Iron Man 2! for this, its opening weekend.

Don’t get left out!

Real-life Spidey foils robery attempt!

Yes, we know that that is sounds suspiciously like a comic book plot, or something out of an episode of The Big Bang, but we assure you that it is not. Spider-Man really did foil a robbery attempt and was assisted by some Jedi Knights who blocked the thief's escape attempt while The Flash stood by ready to jump into the fray

No, really, we haven’t gone off our meds (well we have, but that really isn’t at all a part of what of this story, and no, we aren’t (any more) delusion than normal.
This was the scene played out for real in an Adelaide comic book store when the owner, dressed as Spiderman, stopped a man shoplifting an X-Men book valued at $160.

Adelaide Comic Centre owner Michael Baulderstone, 45, spotted a man "behaving suspiciously" at the back of his Rundle Mall shop on Saturday and discovered the man had the book in his backpack.

"We had about 40 people dressed up as their favourite superheroes to celebrate International Free Comic Day - so he didn't have much of a choice but to hand the X-Men Omnibus back after a little bit of a scuffle," he said.

"One of the funniest things about the incident was that I called for people to stand near the door and it just so happened we had people dressed as Jedi Knights there blocking the exit. The Flash was there too.

Two things, First, I find this story wicked-cool, Spidey, Jedi Knights, and the Flash working in tandem to stop a crook, and Second It’s Spider-Man you effin morons! SpiderHyepheMan! When are you ever going to get it right?

Still, it is wicked cool, eh?

Ion Man v Dr. Pepper

One of the tie-ins to Iron Man 2 is with Dr. Pepper (they also sponsored on or more of the Spidey movies), here is the commercial currently running. Tell me if you can spot the Special celebrity “hidden” in this spot.

Nope, not the guy getting “suited up” but the older gent in the background. If you said Stan “The Man” Lee, then you’d be right.

How cool is that?

Free Comic Book Day: Debreifing #1

Yeah, this is going to take a couple of posts, I would have posted about this on Sunday (or even yesterday, but, well, I had “Intertube issues”. Now, I’m about to run out (to pick up DC Comic stuff @ Taco Bell), and then go to lunch, so I’ve got to make this quick.

As you know, Saturday I went to the Bronx Heroes Con where I got to interview Dondie co-creator Irwin Hasen with my pal Mark Mazz, which was (needless to say) wicked cool.

While at the con I hooked up with a buncha friends and creators, scoring some very nice Indie books (which I’ll talk about later), and then came home to find a stack of some 30 FCBD comics t (and a War Machine Clix) hat my pal Paul Salerno from A Timeless Journey in Stamford, CT put aside for me, and I thanked him for his indulgence by spending a copious amount of funnybooks from him.

Then I scooted over to my (regular) comics guy and picked up my books from last week. Now — as stated — I’m about to jet to Taco Bell for their funnybooks (Thanks, Marc).

Then it’s lunch with my good friend Neil. The rest of this to follow in a new post...

Yes, more Barbie (get over it)

Because I know you love it, here is another Barbie toy from McDonald’s:

Get ready foe an Iron Man (2) Summer!

Well, this is interesting, it appears that Iron Man 2 has already made its international debut, and, courtesy of it's new corporate master, Disney, it already looks like it will be pulling in blockbuster-level box office Bucks!

"Iron Man 2" took in $100 million in its international debut this past weekend, auguring well for its U.S. opening May 7. More important, the movie will serve as a barometer of Walt Disney Co.'s ability to integrate Iron Man creator Marvel Entertainment, with its tangled legacy of licensing and distribution arrangements.
While we certainly hope that the Disney/Marvel merger-nee-acquisition it looks like that the Mouse House is certainly rolling out the red carpet.

Further down the road, Mr. Iger said he expects Iron Man and other Marvel characters to become "presences" at some Disney theme parks, initially through smaller attractions than set-piece rides. Again, though, the company is somewhat constrained by agreements previously struck by Marvel, which granted Universal Studios Florida the exclusive right, in the region, to create rides based on many of its major characters, including Iron Man.
Now we just have to have them fix that terrible, terrible mistake Joe Q. did with Spidey, eh?
