Apparently, sometime during the release of the film Guardians of the Galaxy Subway Restaurants was having a tie-in promotion with the film, and I began writing a post of it on my personal blog, only I never finished it, The franchise was offering bags that they were distributing with their kid’s meals. Here are some of those bags.

More Subway Avengers

OK, so the Subway Avengers: Age of Ultron promotion is over (the franchise is currently promoting the Pixar animated film Inside Out) , and I am in line to get a cool window poster from my local Subway, but in the mean time they gave me this poster.

Well, for a while now we’ve been complaining about the fact that since Disney bought Marvel Comics there seems to have been no Marvel movie toy tie-ins with any fast food restaurant. It has long been our opinion that Disney is leery of they “Your food made my kid fat” mantra of some folk, and have thus cut back on this form of marketing. Another theory is that as the Avenger films are not necessarily deemed as "kid fare" Disney has simply opted not to pitch to fast food chains (mot very likely due to all of the other kid-friendly items out there in the marketplace).

Well, while we are still looking for Marvel Movie/fast food figures and toys, we did recently see that Subway is issuing a bunch of Avenger tie-ins to go with the new Ultron film. The “toys” are actually a group of six cardboard fold-out figures that require assembling, and look rather cool.

There is also a drink cup with a code on it that is redeemable for prizes on the Subway website.

Iron Man 3 is at Subway!

Yep Iron Man 3 comes out this weekend, folks and there is a promotional tie-in at Subway. They are offering Iron Man lunch bags with their kids meals.

Subway, digital comics

Talk about being behind the news cycle curve, the other day I stumbled across these four online comics. All four DC Comics were produced in association with Subway restaurants. These comics feature Superman, Green Lantern, and Batman, and other members of the Justice League, as well as several famous athletes who are fans of Subway. In addition to the four eight-pagers (which were apparently inserted into the center of all DC comics back in June), there are two 3D motion comics staring Ryan Howard and CC Sabathia who stand with Green Lantern and the Justice League against the villainous Darkseid.

In the first comic Michael Strathan, Justin Tuck, and Ndamukong Suh help the JLA rescue Aquaman from Black Manta and Ocean Master while in Hawaii to play an exhibition game.

Issue #2 has Carl Edwards and Blake Griffin join the heroes to stop a gorilla invasion lead by Grodd, the intelligent gorilla from Gorilla City, a hidden city in the jungles of Africa.

The third digital comic has Nastia Liukin, Michael Phelps, and Apollo Ohno coming to the aid of Batman who has been set upon by Mr Freeze and Solomon Grundy.

In the the fourth and final comic Laila Ali, and Subway pitchman Jared, Fogle help the JLA during an attack from the Manhunters.

In all four of the digital comics as well as in the two chapters of then motion comic, the athletes are all chowing down on Subway sandwiches and touting the energy boost that such a healthy meal gives them. All of the comics have the various athletes visiting a Subway restaurant and mention specific sandwiches and ingredients by name (Avocados come up as an energy supplement quite a bit).

All-in-all, these comics are lighthearted and fast-pace, as the intent is to deliver an entertaining comic story while plugging the product, which all of them do quite neatly. Perhaps the only plot point which many fans took issue with was in issue #1, where Aquaman was apparently ambushed and knocked unconcious while swimming off Hawaii. Given that Aquaman is not only the DC King of the Seven Seas, he is the strongest while in water, so this seems to be a bit out of character for him.

Still, that aside, the comics are fun, and downloadable/printable from the web. While not part of the original comic run, during December 2011, Subway is offering two of their 6" subs (Cold Cut Combo and Meatball Marinara) for just $2.00 to all patrons as a way of showing their appreciation for their patronage.

These comics, as were the recently released JLA/General Mills comics tend to be collector items for comicbook aficionados. Thankfully, DC & Subway made the comics downloadable and printable so that fans can hang onto a copy for themselves.

Back in July, Subway teamed with DC to produce a series of six lunch bags that tied into the then-released Green Lantern movie.

Fast Food toys in your future

For a while now I've been monitoring the various fast food web sites looking for new comicbook-related items, and well, the Arby’s site has been saying for a while that comicbooks are coming, but they never seem to get here. I might have to drive by the nearest one to see if the website is up to date.

With the popularity of the Transformers 3 movie out there, Burger King is currently involved in a Tie-in with the film, as they have in the past.

Meanwhile, McDonald’s is in the midst of a Star Wars/The Clone Wars promotion.

As we’ve already indicated, Dunkin’ Donuts is promoting Captain America, Subway is all over Green Lantern (finally) and 7-Eleven is pushing Cowboys & Aliens. I wonder if one of the other fast food franchises will also jump in on the Cap bandwagon as the DD promotion seems to trend more to adults than kids (not that I think that Cap is going to be a kid film).

More Fast Food Superheroes

As discussed, both Captain America and Green Lantern are currently visiting fast food locations this month, (GL is @ Subway, & Cap is @ Dunkin’ Donuts). As we also already know, Green Lantern is also staring in a big budget movie. (Other superheroes in theaters so far this year who also appeared in fast food franchises include Green Hornet (Hardee’s & Carl’s Jr.) and  Thor (7-Eleven), while Marvel’s X-Men made it to the big screen, for some reason there were apparently no toy tie-ins to this comic book flick (fast food or otherwise).

Apparently all cold drinks from Dunkin’ Donuts this month come in a Captain America Cup.

Dunkin’ Donuts even altered its logo to reflect Cap’s presence at the Franchise.

Green Lantern is (finally) showing up @ Subway!

Yes, finally I found some (more) Green Lantern kid meal bags at my local Subway restaurants (some of the locations still haven’t received their promotional items as of yet.)

Well, here are three more. Each bag also came with an additional premium:

Now I’m only missing one bag and whatever comes with that bag.

Green Lantern comes to Subway (Finally!)

Yep, you read that right, kids, after having the promo materials out in the stores for nearly a month, Subway finally has received the reusable Green Lantern kid's meal bags that come with their kid's meals. (after the movie hit the theaters!)

Anyway, here is what we’ve acquired thus far (there are six bags, and each bag comes with a small (additional) giveaway.

In Brightest Day in Darkest night...

...no one shall escape my Green Lantern Cup:

 

As stated the other day, DC chose to team up with Subway for the Green Lantern Movie. At the moment I’ve only managed to acquire this cup. They also have little canvas bags that they give out with the Kid’s meals, only none of the Subways by my house seem to actually have the bags as of yet (and only one had the cups).

Making matters worse, most of the Subways near me seemed to be owned and/or operated by folks whose first (and perhaps even second), language isn’t English, making it very difficult to explain that I want to know :

1. Which bag they have today?
2. Will I be able to buy the bag separately?
3. How much would the bag cost?

Subway goes Green (Lantern)

This just in, folks, the fast food tie-in for the up-coming DC Comics film featuring Green Lantern will be with Subway.

I just checked today, and the promotion hasn’t yet started in my area, but I imagine that it soon will.
