Batman comes to McDonald's

So, this month (August, 2015), DC’s Batman has arrived at the clown house. (No, not the RNC, the other clown house.)

With your Happy Meal toy, you can acquire a very cool Batman action figure or mini-car (The “Boy” toy if Batman Unlimited, while the “Girl ” toy is Monster High). 

As usual the Batman toys are actually pretty cool, offering us two Batman figures, a Joker and (my personal favorite DC villain) Solomon Grundy. There are also a pair of Batmobiles, a Jokermobile, and a Joker on a trike. all very cool stuff. 

Each of the toys move in some fashion (instructions and a coupon for some other related toy from the toy store are included, as well as the ability to go online and play a Batman Unlimited game of some sort) are included in the packaging.

All-in-all, a very nice set. We are glad that DC still issues fast-food toys of their characters but we are especially disappointed that Marvel no longer seems to issue toys. this is something that we’ve noticed has occurred ever since Disney has taken over the house that Jack built, and we don't know if it has more to do with Disney attempting to shy away from the “Your food made my kid fat” claim, or that the execs at the top don't think that Happy Meal toys are appropriate their new re-imagined(adult) superheroes.

Whatever the thought process, we certainly hope that they change their minds, as we totally love these superhero toy types. Needless to say, we are still glad the DC hasn't reached that stage as of yet, and look forward to more superhero-based toys in the future.

Hanging with Ray Felix

Perhaps one of the coolest things about going to comic book shows (like NY Comic Con) is getting to hang with good friends, including people like Ray Felix from Bronx Heroes. Which is precisely what I did while I was at NYCC, and I’m glad that I did, because it was there that I met Trevor Von Eeden. Trevor is doing work for Ray’s Bronx Heroes Comics and spent quite a bit of time at Ray’s booth. It was there — while visiting with Ray — that I was introduced to and got to chat with Trevor.

I even purchased a copy of the first volume of Trevor’s book, The Original Johnson. The graphic novel is Von Eeden’s personal and heartfelt biography of Jack Johnson, the first African-American heavyweight champion of the world, international celebrity, and the most controversial American of his time. This is an amazing artistic achievement of Trevor’s long and storied career (Trevor has worked on Batman, Black Canary, Black Lightning, Green Arrow, and many other characters), more than four years in the making and worth every moment (Look for my review soon to follow).

McDonald's is for the Brave & the Bold

OK Kids, when it rains, it pours. It really pours, as you all know we are experiencing a high volume of  Thor-related fast food movie tie-ins at the moment (with Thor toys appearing at both 7-11 & Burger King), well McDonald’s has taken this time to launch a truly impressive set of Batman Brave & Bold toys.

This outstanding set is eight packages, each containing three (yes, three separate) toys for a total of 24 toys. Seriously, this is a very cool set. Just look at what the first four packages contain!
