Wearing Spidey

OK, you folks asked for more (well, Reggie did, and I can’t help myself but to oblige him). Yesterday I posted some pics of my Spidey Boxers, and Reggie wanted to know if I had any socks, well I do, but they are like 30 years old (and no, I don't wear them any more, because, well, as you can see they are white socks with Spidey printed on them). I never wanted to wear them out, so I wore them a few times when I was younger, then tossed them in the back of my sock drawer (right next to the Cap socks, which I’ve also posted).

In recent years I’ve looked for Spidey socks again (these are also just a touch small on me these days), with no real success. I’ve also been unable to find Spidey shoes except for little kids (heh, kids get all the luck). Actually, when I was in my 20s I almost bought a set of Spidey Underoos, (secure in the knowledge that I was going to eventually get married and have kids). Only I stopped, when logic kicked in as I wasn’t sure that I’d have boys, or what size to buy (that plus the fact that I wasn’t dating anyone at the time). It wasn’t until later (after they stopped manufacturing Underoos) that I regretted not ever buying them.

Anyway, I’m just happy that I can get adult-sized Spidey boxers. Oh yea, you’ll also see my Spidey pillowcase up here someplace (Just one, each side is different). I think this was from Spidey 2. Then, as long as I had the camera out, I figured that I’d snap some pics of the Spidey clock that is in my office.

As well as a couple of Spidey suction figures that are stuck to a glass-front book case that is also in my office. Fun stuff all around.

Oh, and just to keep you in suspenders, right now I’m working with Jon over at SpiderFan to build a fast food section displaying all of the Spider-Man related kid toys that I have collected over the years (including some non-US toys as well). Not to worry, I’ll let you know here when that section becomes populated and ready for public viewing.

In the mean time you will just all have to satisfy yourselves with looking at all of the truly oddball Spidey stuff that I have in my eclectic collection.

Boxing with Spidey

OK guys (and gals, if there are any of you out there), yesterday we were talking about my Spidey boxers, and I figured that I’d show all you folks what I have (so to speak — and no, don’t worry, I’m not wearing them in the pics I’m posting here, so get over yourselves).

Just so we’re clear, not all of these came from WebUndies, but that certainly is a good place to start if you are looking for character-driven underclothes. Also, while I certainly advise that it is always good to wait for others to feed your Spidey habit, you shouldn’t feel it necessary to wait. Seriously, you can always buy this sort of stuff for yourselves. Oh yeah, that Spidey kerchief that heads this post was also kind of a neat bit of Spidey-wear.

Oh, and just so you don’t think that I’m boycotting other characters, I do have a pair of boxers that supported George Lucas.

Then, of course, I also sometimes wear tank tops, and here are a couple of those. The first one is a shirt I acquired when I took the family to Florida, and we visited Marvel Island at the Universal Theme Park.

The second shirt is one given to me by Matt Hawkins, back when he worked for Rob Liefeld’s Extreme Studios. You’ll note that the shirt is a bit worn, because, well, I used to wear it quite a bit back in the day.

To be sure, I do have more Spider (and comic)-related clothing. Eventually, I’m sure that I’ll get around to posting all of my spider-gear on this site, so if you are patient enough I’ll eventually get them up here.

Good Night Spidey

So, when you all go to sleep, do you sleep soundly? or are you afraid of things that go bump (or Thwip, or Snikt or Bamf) in the night? Not me. I’m protected by my very own superhero. Think I’ve gone a little goofy, well you might be right, only maybe not so much. As you can see by these pics, I’ve got Spidey (and his Marvel buddies) hanging around me all the time.

First up, is a light switch plate that is the entrance to my office. Then you can see a pillowcase that my brother gave me several years ago, followed by a pair of Spidey lounge pants (pajama bottoms) that I wear to bed. The lounge pants can be found at webundies.com. My wife acquired them for me a short time back. I also acquired boxer shorts there as well.

Next up I have a pic of the Spidey garbage pail that sits next to my side of the bed. My Son Dylan got that for me a couple of years ago. I have (had) another one that sat in my office, but after I had a minor flood in my basement (no, don’t worry, I didn’t lose anything important, no Spidey-related stuff, no non-Spidey related stuff — save for the rug itself. I moved a good deal of Stuff out to my garage then. That was two years ago, last year, I suffered another flood during rainy season (didn’t lose anything then, either, but as these were the only two floods I had in my basement in the 15 years that I lived here, I’m cautious to put stuff down here again until we get past that time this year. When that happens, I’ll repopulate my office with my Spidey struff, and then I’ll show you pics of my way-cool stuff.

Oh yeah, I also have Spidey in my car, as you can see from the last photo, I have what can only be called a shoulder-strap buddy. I found this little guy on a Yahoo auction from china for a penny (the shipping was like $12 bucks, but I couldn’t resist). It is supposed to be fastened (by Velcro) to the shoulder strap, and then your little guy can have Spidey watch over him while strapped into the car.

Now personally, I don’t drive like that, but it is fun to keep in the car.

Now THIS is a trailer!

OK, I’ve seen some very interesting film trailers, but this one (if it is a real trailer, and not some fan-compiled bit) is one of the savviest marketing ploys I’ve seen in an age.

Come to think about it, it is pretty good even it it is a fan-inspired, rather than studio-generated trailer.

Where are all the Batman tie-ins?

When Spider-Man 3 cam out, or rather just before Spider-Man 3 came out, there was a ton-and-a-half of Spidey-related tie-ins that were out in the stores — and I ought to know, as I purchased a bunch of ‘em. The question that I have is, whit the impending presence of a major Batman film just a week or so away, where in the name of Bill Finger are all of the Batman tie-ins?

No really, I know that there are some supposed to be out there and I’ve even reported on a couple, but seriously, I don’t see any thing out there on the shelves. Does anyone see Bat-stuff? ‘cause I certainly don’t.

To be sure, it could have something to do with Heath Ledger’s untimely death, but I’m not entirely convinced that’s the problem. It can’t be that Marvel is more savvy than DC (or could it?). Personally, I’m not sure, but I can’t help but to wonder.

Thankfully, I’m more about the Spider, than the Bat, so I’m cool.

Big Shots

Some weeks back I spoke about a few comics that were produced by some friends of mine that I was reading at the time. I wanted to go back and talk again about one in particular entitled 5 Shots, by Jemir Johnson. The book is a digest-sized, square-bound, B&W comic containing five short crime stories. The stories are a series of visceral street-level crime dramas, that grab you right from the get-go, and keeps you there all the way through to the final page. Jemir is a CAG buddy from the NY team. Well, not only has Jemir produced this comic (which is available on Amazon)!

Well, if that isn’t enough to get your attention, he has already produced a standard-sized B&W comic that serves as a prequel to these stories. This prequel is entitled Street Sweeper I’m telling you that he’s really got me going with this stuff, and and I wanted to go back and recommend them to you again, because I truly believe that you all will enjoy them as much as did I.

As stated elsewhere, I always like being able to promote the comicbook work of my friends, and other indie creators whenever I can. So, perhaps this would be a good time to remind all of you regular readers of my blog that I have some comics of my own that I’d also like to promote. You can find some links to them off to the right, or you can just post here that you are interested, and we can talk of-line.

Enjoy!
