Transformers at BK

OK, OK, truth of the matter is that Transformers were at BK, (Simpsons are there now, more in a later post), but I did manage to snag a couple of the Transformer toys, and as the movie was totally cool, and Marvel used to publish Transformers (plus there is a new New Avengers/ Transformers comic out now), I thought I'd make mention of them.

Plus Tom has been bugging me for this post.

The Dilbert Factor

I’m a huge fan of Scott Adams’s syndicated character, Dilbert. While I don’t always get to follow his wekly adventures (or watch the cartoon), I do what I can. In that regard, I’ve been getting a Dilbert day calandar for the past few years.

This calandar has a strip a day (from a couple of years back), and sits on my desk.

Yesterday’s was particularly funny, and I wanted to share it with all of you.



I literally laughed out loud at the punchline to this gag. I’m thinking that so too did you.

The Return of Video Victor

Back in the Mid ‘80s, I was the managing editor of a magazine called Videogaming Illustrated. I wrote some game reviews, articles, news items, and (for a couple of installments) I actually got to write an actual comicstrip. Sure, sure, the strip was only a one-page gag strip entitled Video Victor which combined bee jokes, videogaming, and pop culture references. (Commodore Computer used to produce a small computer named the Vic-20, hence the name “Video Victor” like a joke, only smaller).

Anyways, while I was writing it, the strip was drawn by John Constanza. It was my first published fiction work. It was fun, and I finally found a place to post the only two strips I ever got to write. Check ’em out, it might be kinda fun.

The reason I only wrote two installments is that the mag (VI) was canceled at that point. It would take me almost another three years to get my second work of fiction (Agent Unknown) into print, and then six more years for my third (a brief article in Marvel Year in Review 1993 that told the “Previous Untold” real origin of the Avengers. Now that I think of it, perhaps I should post that little bit of nonsense I penned with my writing partner John A. Wilcox as well.

Sign of the times

Hey, I just got the coolest gift. My lovely wife went on vacation for a week to Arizona with my beautiful daughter, and when she returned, she brought me this one-of-a-kind sign that was made while they watched from some boutique that they stopped in while sightseeing.

I happen to think that it is way cool. Hopefully you will as well.

More on the FF at BK

As I pointed out in my last post, The Fantastic Four are currently over at Burger King, and the (six) toys that they are issuing with the release of the new FF/Surfer Film (Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer) are actually quite cool.

The Toys have sort of an exaggerated anime feel to them, and — while they don’t “do” anything (light up, spin around, etc.) they stand really well, and — like I said, look very cool.

Last time out I posted photos of Torch, Mr. Fantastic, The Surfer and Thing. This time I’m delivering a picture of the final two of the series, Invisible Woman and Dr. Doom.

I can only hope that next year’s Iron Man, Hulk, and Nick Fury flicks will also arrive with fast food toys as cool as these. Oh yeah, also due out Next year are The Dark Knight (Batman), and Wonder Woman (but neither of those are due out until 2008).

Spidey Week may be over, but here come the FF!

Imagine my surprise when I went into Burger King the other day, and noticed that Spidey had been replaced by the Fantastic Four. Yeah, yeah, I knew that the FF has stealth-filmed their way into theaters this year (until I saw the trailer, I honestly had no idea the the film was even in the works — as soon as I pen the review, I’ll post it on my review page over at PopThought). Well, anyway, I’m really happy that not only is the film being made, but that BK has chosen to distribute Kid Meal toys with it.

There are six toys, and I already have four of them. I’m hoping to score the other two over the weekend or early next week. Here are the toys that I have collected thus far from BK. The toys are seriously cool, (especially for a Fast food toy collector like myself who dabbles in superheroes). Anyways, the next two toys in the set are Dr. Doom and the Invisible Woman.

I don’t know if there are any other comicbook films due out this year, but if there are, I hope that they also have fast food toy tie-ins.
