Then I went up to visit my old buddy, Jim Main, who was having a tag sale, and selling off some of his collectibles. Well, I acquired some of the coolest stuff there. Take a look.

Avengers, Thor & Captain America

Everything you want to know about Avengers, Thor & Captain America can be found in the on-going Official Index of the Marvel Universe that deals with these characters, and you are in luck, as the fifth issue of this on-going series is now on comicbook shelves right now, you can hurry out and purchase as many copies as you can find.

One of the reasons is that I’m one of the contributors to this massive undertaking (granted, I’m not as big a contributor as others, but a contributor nonetheless).

I’m contributing to the Thor and Captain American parts of the Index.

The Rusties

So, I was recently informed that (for the third year in a row), I’ve been nominated in the “Best Writer” category for a CAG Award (Now renamed “The Hallers” in honor of Rusty Haller). Once again I’m honored to be considered, and well it would be great to win (finally).

The story is my contribution in Iconic, entitle First in Flight, which is a story about the real-life Gustave Whitehead, who flew before the Wright Brothers, but has long been denied his rightful place in History.

Am I Immortal

I know that I’ve spoken about my friend Shawnti Therrien’s on-going vampire-themed comics (Am I Immortal & Meth), well, I just wanted you all to know that I’m not the only one singing her praises. Turns out that other folk find her as talented as do I, one of them even posted a review of her books.

Well, since you’ve heard me yammer about them a-plenty, I thought that I’d pass along what others think of her mesmerizing art and storytelling. The review I’m citing here is from Sarah L. Covert’s lovely website, She Never Slept (which I also highly recommend).

OK, now you’ve heard it from two of us, what is stopping you from going in out to buy (multiple) copies of everything that Shawnti has ever published?

There is a comicbook shop in Torrington, CT called My Mother Threw Mine Away. Personally, while my parents never understood why I bought and saved comics, they never tossed any of mine. Hopefully yours didn’t either. Still, if you are looking for a list of some of the highest comics ever offered for resale, check out this list.

Actually, it is a bit dated (with some of the comics shown here having sold for more than this article reports, and the first item on the list is actually a piece of art rather than an actual comic) but it is still a good barometer of the field.

Needless to say, the only comic in this list that I actually own is Amazing Fantasy #15.

Oyster Fest, 2010

So, once again, I spent this past weekend (the weekend after Labor Day) working at the Norwalk Seaport Association’s Oyster Festival. This is the 23rd time I’ve done so, and the third time that we’ve had the Marvel Comics Characters entertain us on Sunday afternoon. It is also the third time that I’ve met said heroes after their performance.

The Marvel Heroes (the three you see here plus supervillain Green Goblin and one of his henchmen (played by the same actor who is in the Hulk suit), also showed up at the event, and put on a children’s show that dealt with physical fitness and how to deal with bullies.

Needless to say, the kids loved it!

 

The War is coming!

There are wars and rumors of wars. Well this one is no longer a roomer, folks. The extremely talented Dave Ryan’s long-talked about and muchly heralded The War of the Independents is finally making its debut at the NY Comicon this October, and well, (for me at least) the coolest part of all of this is that my own characters, Wülf Girlz will be a (very small) part of the war.

Yep, that’s right. The Girlz will make a cameo in the first issue, as well as play a (small) role in the war itself. I couldn’t be more thrilled.

I had only just met Dave shortly after the Girlz made their debut in Psychosis! #1 (GWP), when the call went out for Indie characters to sign on board, and I was quick to give Dave the nod.

Man am I glad that I did, as this is turning out to be the coolest Indie comic to ever hit the stands. Seriously. Nothing like this has ever been done before, and well, it is totally wicked cool.

I’ve seen a special sneak peak of issue #1 and I was toatlly blown away (hey, don’t tell Dave, but I’m going to show you a portion of a wicked-two-page spread of virtually every Indie comic character in the known world.)

Yep, that’s my Girlz up there in the corner! I couldn’t be prouder, and I haven’t even told you about the special card set that is coming out (also @ ComicCon).

I’m as giddy as a schoolgirl!

Yep, Shakespeare got it right after all (as if there was any doubt). I know that this is “old” news, but is is still worth repeating here.

Marvel is suing the family of the late artist Jack Kirby in a bid to retain copyright to some of the company's best-loved comic book characters.

Legal action, filed in New York, sought to invalidate 45 notices sent by his heirs, claiming rights to characters would revert to Kirby's estate in 2014.

Marvel maintains Kirby's illustrations, published between 1958-1963, were "for hire" making the heirs' claims invalid.

 Needless to say, Kirby's family has vowed to “vigorously defend” their (totally legitimate) case.

So my buddy Ray Felix put together this great indie comic entitled A World without Superheroes that took a very personal (tragic) experience and translated it into a very moving and profound comic. Next he moved on to continue the story, only he received a letter from Marvel & DC.

It seems that Marvel & DC jointly own the term "Superhero" in all its forms (Super Hero, Super-Hero, etc.) and have issued him a cease and desist order.

Yeah, you read that right Marvel & DC have the world-wide rights to the conjoined words Super and Hero, and no one (NO ONE) can use that term without paying them a royalty fee.

Needless to say, Felix is trying to fight it, stating that it is a restraint of trade issue, and that both those words, (including used together), have been in the public usage since 1917, so there is no way that Marvel & DC should ever have been allowed to trademark these words.

Personally, I agree, and I'll just bet that you folks do as well.
